Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto strongly condemned the escalating Israeli violations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, warning against any attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo of Jerusalem’s holy sites. The two leaders also denounced efforts to divide the mosque spatially and temporally, calling such actions a dangerous provocation.
Their joint stance was delivered during official talks held on Monday at Al Husseiniya Palace in Amman. The meeting marked President Subianto’s first official visit to Jordan since assuming the presidency, and it focused on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing key regional developments.
King Abdullah warmly welcomed the Indonesian leader, commending Indonesia’s growing international role under Subianto’s leadership, especially in promoting regional and global stability. The King emphasized that the escalating conflict in Gaza, along with the fragile situations in Syria and Lebanon, is contributing to a broader state of regional instability. He also highlighted Indonesia’s remarkable progress in recent years, presenting it as a valuable partner for Jordan in expanding cooperation.
The talks, attended by Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, Chief Advisor for Religious and Cultural Affairs and the King’s personal envoy, were described as constructive and essential for building stronger bridges between the governments and peoples of Jordan and Indonesia.
King Abdullah reiterated Jordan’s firm commitment to its religious and historical role in safeguarding the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, in accordance with the Hashemite Custodianship.
President Subianto praised the enduring friendship between the two nations and reaffirmed Indonesia’s solidarity with Jordan in defending the rights of the Palestinian people. He expressed unwavering support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, emphasizing that Indonesia would continue to advocate for Palestinian self-determination on the international stage.
He also expressed appreciation for King Abdullah’s wise leadership and the progress Jordan has achieved under his guidance. President Subianto affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Jordan, particularly in areas such as agriculture and economic development.
