On Monday, Lithuania appointed a new ambassador to NATO and a chief of the country’s intelligence service, the State Security Department (VSD).

Darius Jauniškis, the outgoing head of the VSD, will become the country’s permanent representative to NATO, while his former deputy, Remigijus Bridikis, will become the new chief of the intelligence service. Meanwhile, Deividas Matulionis, the former ambassador to NATO, will become a presidential adviser on national security issues.

Jauniškis led the VSD since 2015, with his term as the director ending on April 14. Previously, he spent his career in the military, most recently leading the country’s special forces.

Bridikis, the new head of the VSD, previously served in the then VIP Protection Department (now the Dignitary Protection Service) and the Lithuanian Armed Forces and worked at the Defence Ministry and NATO special operations headquarters.
