Kaja Kallas, Aleksandar Vucic, Brussels, Dec. 3 2024 (BETAPHOTO/European Council/NICOLAS LANDEMARD)
European Union High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said on April 14 that she would visit Serbia and Kosovo late in May.
After a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, she reiterated that normalization of relations between the two sides was very important and that the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue had to resume.
She added that it had been stressed during the ministerial session that the EU would not look kindly on anyone's participation in May 9 Victory Day celebrations in Moscow after Russia started a war in Europe.
She went on to emphasize that the stability and security of the Western Balkans were essential and that the region was geographically in Europe and should therefore be in the EU, too, making enlargement important.
Kallas said that Albania and Montenegro were doing good work on reforms, while Bosnia and Herzegovina was in a constitutional crisis, and that any attempt to break up the country was unacceptable. "The political leaders must bridge divisions, not [...] widen them," she said.
