An Illinois man could be facing life in prison after being charged with first-degree murder in connection with the beating death of his girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter after she spilled juice on his Xbox.Johnathan Fair, 19, was indicted on four counts of first-degree murder by a Lake County grand jury Wednesday, according to the Chicago Tribune.Authorities said Fair was babysitting 4-year-old Skylar Martinez on Dec. 13, 2018, when she spilled juice on his Xbox. Fair allegedly punished the child by beating her and kicking her down the hallway of the home. Fair took the girl to the hospital after she passed out and gave doctors conflicting accounts of what happened, authorities said. The girl later died at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.Fair later admitted to shaking and beating the girl. Hospital staff also noted signs of previous shaking and abuse, likely dating back months, according to Assistant State's Attorney Steve Scheller.If convicted, Fair could face a sentence ranging from 60 years to natural life in prison, Scheller said.
