Parkinson has been named to the board of the Academy of Applied Science, an organization that has a 50-year-old mandate to fuel the spark of genius in America’s young people. National in scope, the organization is based in New Hampshire.

The Academy of Applied Science administers Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs where students apply scientific knowledge to life, research and inventions. The programs are intended to meant to foster creativity in young students, encourage the rising generation of teen mathematicians, scientists and engineers with recognition for their efforts, and provide scholarships and apprenticeships for young people of high school age interested in pursuing careers in STEM-related fields.

Parkinson’s long and distinguished career has kept him connected with scientific and learning-related fields for four decades. In 1978, Parkinson was one of the co-founders of Kronos. He is currently Vice Chairman of Urbix Resources, a company concerned with all aspects of the graphite value chain. He also sits on the board of or acts as advisor to SiO2 Nanotech, the developer of VitreOx™, biotechnology startup XTest, Inc. and employee care company, TriageNow. In addition, Parkinson has coached lacrosse at Notre Dame Prep school in Scottsdale for the past three years and is an Executive in Residence at Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business.

After receiving his MBA from the Wharton Graduate School, Parkinson started his career on Wall Street, at the investment firm of Drexel Burnham Lambert, where he became a key player in the halcyon days of leveraged buyouts and “highly confident” letters.

In the early 1980s Parkinson moved to London as Senior Vice President of Hasbro where he was responsible for European operations. While in England, he purchased Vicarage Jaguar, a company that came to create a new niche in luxury motorcars. Since that time, Parkinson has functioned as advisor, investor, owner or CEO of several successful firms.
