Britain's broadband still isn't good enough.

That's the news from a latest internet speed test performed by the team at consumer group Which?.

The Government’s Universal Service Obligation (USO) has set a countrywide download speed at 10 MegaBytes per second (Mbps) - deemed necessary for typical family or small business.

However, Which? found that there were 12 authorities in the country leaving people with sub-par internet connections

Scotland was identified as the worst offender, with three of the worst broadband connections in the country.

After 299 tests in the region, the worst places for broadband in Britain were identified as the Orkney Islands, Shetland Islands and Highland.

The most dismal connection speeds came from the Orkney Isles, with internet connectivity at 6Mbps which is 4 Mbps below the national minimum.

The Shetland Isles and Highland were not far behind, with connectivity speeds of 8.4 and 8.8 Mbps respectively.

While low connectivity may be expected in the further reaches of the country, it was, however, also revealed that internet connectivity was running slow in the nations capital.

Slower than average connections were found in the London boroughs of Westminster, City of London, Southwark, Lambeth and Hackney, which were all running with speeds south of the country's 17mbps average.

Which? Managing Director of Home Services, Alex Neill, said: “Far too many households across the UK are suffering from slow broadband speeds, which can stop you being able to carry out essential daily tasks.

“We are encouraging everyone with broadband to use our speed checker so people can see if they are getting the speeds that they’ve been promised by their provider and find out how to complain if their speed is too slow.

The broadband hotspot in the country was Tamworth, with an average speed of 30.4 mbps, over triple the national minimum.
