Microsoft has announced an official launch date for its slimmer Xbox One redesign, the Xbox One S: August 2.

Not to be confused with Project Scorpio, Microsoft's denied-then-announced Xbox One upgrade with enhanced specifications, the Xbox One S is largely a device shrink rather than a full redesign. The major specifications remain unchanged, though the new model does include support for gaming in high-dynamic range (HDR) mode, video playback in 4K HDR, and boasts a front-facing USB port and IR blaster.

The major feature of the Xbox One S over its predecessor is its size: some 40 percent smaller in volume than the original, the redesigned console includes an internal power supply for reduced clutter and a choice of 500GB, 1TB, or 2TB of internal storage. Each model also comes with the latest revision of the Xbox Wireless Controller, packing a new textured grip and Bluetooth support for use with devices running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One S is to appear in the UK on August 2, as well as in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United States, with additional markets due to see the device before the end of 2016.

Microsoft's announcement comes as Amazon reportedly leaks a launch date and price for the PlayStation Neo, also known as the PlayStation 4.5 and the Playstation 4K. Featuring enhanced specifications, much like Microsoft's Project Scorpio, a listing on Amazon Spain captured by VGLeaks prior to its deletion suggests that the console may launch on the October 13 priced at €399.99 (around £335 excluding taxes.)

The Xbox One S 2TB model is priced in the UK at £349.99, with pricing for the 1TB and 500GB models yet to be confirmed.
