He's considered a relaxed and approachable celebrity.

But, away from the spotlight, Rod Stewart is a traditional family man with a no-nonsense approach to raising children.

That's according to blonde beauty Penny Lancaster, who's been married to the crooner, 73, for more than a decade.

The 46-year-old says he runs a tight ship in their luxury LA home, which can see the hit-maker resort to unlikely discipline.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday's Life supplement, she said: "Rod obsesses about keeping the house in order.

"If the girls [daughters Kimberly, 38, and Ruby, 30] bring their dogs into the house and they don’t clean up after them, he has been known to put the poo under their car seats.

"The boys [Alastair, 12, and Aiden, 6] have an Xbox room on which he has put a lock and a cardboard sign which will say things like 'No entry. You left the lights on' or 'You’ve been rude to Mummy.'"

Thankfully, his motivation is good - he simply wants to ensure that their brood don't become spoilt. Something she appreciates.

"The truth is I’m a very traditional woman and Rod – despite everything people may think – is a very traditional man," Penny added.

"It’s true he absolutely loves glamour and he hasn’t got a conventional job, but performing aside, he’s happiest at home with his kids around him".

Stewart found singing success first with The Jeff Beck Group then Faces in the 1960s and 1970s but is now best known for his solo work.

He has had eight children with five women, including two with his third wife Penny.

A proud Scot, he opened the 2014 Commonwealth Games and was famously seen crying tears of joy when his beloved Celtic beat Barcelona in the Champions League in 2012.
